The Supply Establishment administers doctrine, equipment and procurement for logistics, medical support, maintenance and sustainment across every formation of the Commonwealth Armed Forces, across every Division. Regiments in the country’s service carry an organic Supply Company sized to sustain it independently on an isolated island without reinforcement, and maritime and Levy formations carry an equivalent sustainment tail proportionate to their own size – the same self-sufficiency requirement each Division as a whole is built around.
Equipment procurement runs through the Defence Industrial Establishment and its two constituents, the Federal Ordnance Establishment and the Federal Materiel Establishment; the Bureau of Supply coordinates the movement of what they produce, and the Defence Home Commission handles veteran welfare, both from outside the Establishment structure. Command of Supply-manned formations rests with their parent Division, not the Establishment.
