The Federal Ordnance Establishment is a constituent organisation of the Ministry of Defence.

The Federal Ordnance Establishment (FOE, commonly Federal Ordnance) sets specifications and manages procurement for arms, ammunition and guided munitions on behalf of the Defence Industrial Establishment. It inspects and certifies output from Commonwealth Arsenal’s ordnance factories and administers contracts with private manufacturers including Savage Arsenal, and it maintains a close working relationship with the DSRE on weapons research.
The FOE does not design weapons itself. Development work is carried out competitively by the factory system, and the FOE’s role lies in arranging production and certification for the Commonwealth Armed Forces.
